Chief Internal Events Reported.

(a) General Pai Chung-hsi has arrived in Taiwan to reorganise the political and economic structure, and to redress legitimate grievances.

(b) The mother of Wong Shui-cheung, (the peanut hawker, whose death caused a local sensation) complains that she cannot get delivery of the HK$10,000 awarded her by the Hong Kong Government. (Kung Sheung Daily Press, 20/3).

(c) The Kwangtung Provincial Government is endeavouring to have the members of the Peace Preservation Corps, convicted by Hong Kong Government on account of the Ping Shan incident, released. -- (Special Correspondent, Sing Tao Jih Pao, 22/3).

(a) A R.A.F. transport C155 was held in Canton on March 14 for allegedly landing at the White Cloud Airfield without permission. Tao Jih Pao, 22/3).

(e) The Maritime Customs are taking a serious view of the smuggling incident in which the Butterfield & Swire operated S.S. "Wusueh" was in- volved. Goods, said to be smuggled, to the value of CNX50,000,000 were found in the engine room. (Shiang Pao, Canton, 17/3).

(f) Aliens in China are to be subject to the same laws as Chinese subjects in the matter of registering ownership of land. (Chung Cheng Jih Pao, Canton, 18/3).

(g) Epidemics of diphtheria, smallpox, and meningitis are spreading rapidly in Canton. (Yuet Wah Pao, Canton, 18/3).

(h) The release of the two members of the Peace Preservation Corps convicted in Hong Kong continues to be demanded. (Chung Shan Jih Pao, 19/3). Mr. T. W. Kwok "does not wish to see the case lead to a regretable incident" etc. (Chung Shan Jih Pao, 22/3).
